Sandown Stud’s exciting new stallion Soqrat has made the perfect start to his stud career, and already has two mares tested safely in foal.
Among the mares who have tested in foal to Soqrat are Natural Beauty and Red Ridge -with the former a half-sister to four stakes winners including graded stakes winners Priceless Jewel and Royal Badge, and Red Ridge being a dual winning Silvano mare whose relatives include such notable G1 winners as Nania, Red Ray, Rudra and Set Afire.
“Soqrat has got his first two mares in foal, he is an intelligent horse and a pleasure to work with, he covers like the Champion that he is,” enthused Sandown Stud’s James Armitage.
“It is a very pleasing that his first two mares are both in foal considering he ran in a Gr1, travelled 20 hours, changed environment, changed feed just 30 days before he saw his first mare. A True Champion.”
One of the best of his generation at two, three and four, Soqrat was South Africa’s Champion 2YO Colt of 2017-2018.
The son of Epaulette won seven times during a career which saw Soqrat account for such star gallopers as Legal Eagle, One World, Queen Supreme, Rainbow Bridge, Van Halen and Will Pays.
Soqrat won a trio of G1 races during his career, landing the G1 Premiers Champion Stakes at two, and the G1 Cape Guineas and G1 H F Oppenheimer Horse Chestnut Stakes a year later.
From the same female line as the likes of Hyperion, Linamix and Sir Tristram, the magnificent Soqrat stands his first year for a fee of R20 000.
