Sandown Stud’s exciting new stallon Soqrat gained a handsome update to his fine female line when his close relative Nafoorah made it two wins from just three starts when victorious at the Vaal Racecourse on Thursday.
Trained, like Soqrat himself, by Mike de Kock, the three-year-old Nafoorah was all the rage for Thursday’s eighth race, the TAB Telebet 0861 000 822 MR 88 Handicap (1800m) and duly obliged in impressive fashion.
Always travelling strongly under jockey Callan Murray, the Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid al Maktoum bred and owned Nafoorah quickened up smartly to score going away by two and a quarter lengths.
The gelding had impressed when winning over 1200m debut before going on to finish second to the very smart Astrix on his only other start.
A son of the former de Kock trained Soft Falling Rain, Nafoorah himself is out of the Commands mare Anhaar –a three-parts sister to Soqrat (sired by Commands’ son Epaulette).
An Equus Champion at two, and dual G1 winner at three, Soqrat made the perfect start to his stud career when early mares covered by him recently tested in foal.
